Gion
Gion the most famous entertainment district in the center of Kyoto located around Shijo Avenue between Yasaka Shrine in the east and the Kamo River in the west. It is filled with shops, restaurants, and geisha/maiko entertain.
This place attracts tourists with its high concentration of traditional wooden stalls. The stalls were built with narrow facades only five to six meters wide, but extend up to twenty meters in from the street.
The most popular area is Hanami-koji Street from Shijo Avenue to Kenninji Temple. The streets is a fine place to eat, shop, and sightseeing.

Gion by Night
Gion district is a completely different world at night. In the more modern areas of Gion the bars and restaurants come alive as dusk falls, and in the preserved streets the lanterns are lit on the teahouses and maiko, or apprentice geisha, can be seen hurrying to their appointments.
Access
1. Take bus number 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station and get off at Gion_bus Stop (20 minutes, 230 yen).
2. Otherwise, take a train and get off at Gion Shijo Station on the Keihan Line or Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Line.
